Objective: Present an overview of legislation applying to the prevention, surveillance, and control of hospital (nosocomial) infections in the Region, with the goal of analyzing trends and evaluating the current status of health surveillance systems. It is the product of a joint initiative between two PAHO technical areas: Health Surveillance and Disease Management, and Health Systems Strengthening.

Structure: A thematic analysis where, within each thematic area, the health legislation of each country is noted and analyzed, in alphabetical order. It is complemented by two annexes. Annex I contains a list, by country and topic, of the legislation analyzed, with an index of websites where the full text can be consulted.
