Fostering Cooperation in Health
Washington, D.C. PAHO HQ. December 16, 2009.-
"Public health is way more than a job for us: it is a passion, a heartfelt commitment, our whole life. We keep good company because, fortunately, it is that way not only for us but also for millions of people worldwide. Public health is a sort of a network of networks, where a broad and multifaceted umbrella which protects the well-being of humanity is held up every day by a myriad of individual's actions."
Welcoming remarks by Dr. Mirta Roses-Periago, Director of the Pan American Health Organization on the occasion of the South-South Development Solutions Forum on Global Health as part of the Global South-South Development Expo at PAHO HQ in Washington DC.

An Integrated Approach to Controlling Tuberculosis in Indigenous Populations (Cochabamba, Bolivia, 23-24 October 2007)
Latin America is characterized as being a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural region of great diversity, with more than 650 indigenous populations. Indigenous peoples' right to health is limited by a series of obstacles to care, for which reason their rates of morbidity and mortality from prevalent diseases are higher than among the general population. To overcome these barriers, there is a need to study them and identify specific control strategies and care models that will work in places where health systems have yet to reach, with the ultimate objective of reducing the risk of illness and death. This page offers a summary, the recommendations, and the full-text report in Spanish.(24/Oct/2007)

These parasitic diseases are much more frequent in women, children, marginalized populations living in extreme poverty, and migrant workers. This meeting presented the epidemiological situation and activities being carried out for prevention and control and explored opportunities for implementing or strengthening deparasitization/deworming programs in the countries. This page offers a summary and access to the final report in Spanish.(27/Jul/2007)
