4th Pan American Congress to Promote Vegetable and Fruit Consumption (Santiago, Chile, 28-30 August 2008)
The objectives of this event are to: (1) Promote vegetable and fruit (V&F) consumption in Latin America; (2) Allow for exchange of experiences and lessons learned from programs to promote V&F consumption in the countries of the Region; (3) Disseminate the latest research findings related to nutrition and cancer; (4) Discuss new marketing strategies for V&F consumption. CARMEN School International Course: Social Marketing and Preventing Child Obesity (Santiago, Chile, 26–27 August 2008)
The objectives of this course are to Identify the principles that characterize social marketing and planning programs using the marketing mix (the "4 Ps": Product, Price, Place/ distribution, and Promotion); understand the importance of formative research and the segmentation of audiences when designing social marketing programs; recognize the importance of establishing realistic objectives for the different target audiences; distinguish among the stages of design, development, implementation, and evaluation of a social marketing campaign; and analyze the possibility of designing and implementing a social marketing strategy to prevent child obesity in Chile. This course will accompany the 4th Pan American Congress to Promote Fruit and Vegetable Consumption. (30/May/2008)

Ministry of Health of Brazil Launches 2nd Edition of the Charters of Elimination: Epidemiological Situation of Hansen's Disease among Children under 15
On 28 January 2005, the Brazilian government launched the 2nd edition of the Charters of Elimination, focusing on the epidemiological situation of leprosy (Hansen's disease) among children under the age of 15. The Minister of Health delivered a charter to each of the 27 Brazilian states, which can be accessed via this link on the website of the Secretary of Health Surveillance (MS/SVS).(28/Jan/2005)

Successful Experiences in Disease Control in Brazil Presented at Expoepi (Brasilia, 23-26 November 2004)
The Ministry of Health of Brazil and the Department of Health Surveillance (SVS), with PAHO participating, held the 4th National Exhibit on Successful Experiences in Epidemiology and Disease Prevention and Control (Expoepi). The objectives of the event, the most important in its area in all Brazil, were to exhibit and award actions implemented in the cities and states that had a positive impact on the prevention and control of diseases of importance to public health, by improving the quality of epidemiological surveillance.(30/Nov/2004)
