The Food and Nutrition Program (HPN), as part of the Division of Health Promotion and Protection, works to promote the optimal nutritional status and health of the people of the Americas. In addition to focusing on the prevention of the problems of undernutrition and micronutrient deficiencies among young children and pregnant women, HPN recognizes the epidemiological transition that is occurring throughout the Region and has expanded its focus to also include the problem of low levels of physical activity and overweight.(15/Jan/2002)
