TB/HIV: A Clinical Manual
Recognition of the impact of HIV on the clinical management of TB prompted WHO to publish the first edition of this manual in 1996. In response to popular demand, the manual was adapted for different regions and translated into many languages.The total number of copies distributed has run to well over 100,000. Recognition of the strengths and weaknesses of the first edition and developments in the TB/HIV field have now prompted a second edition, with special focus on treating children.(31/Jul/2004)

Report of a Lessons Learnt Workshop on the Six ProTEST Pilot Projects in Malawi, South Africa and Zambia (Durban, South Africa, 3–6 February 2003)
The ProTEST initiative was established in 1997 by WHO to develop a more coherent response to tuberculosis (TB) in settings with high HIV prevalence through collaboration between TB and HIV/AIDS control programs. HIV counseling and testing services were developed as the entry point to a package of prevention, care and support services. Six model ProTEST projects were established in three countries with a high burden of HIV-related TB; project results were reviewed during this workshop. Guidelines for Implementing Collaborative TB and HIV Programme Activities
The main aim of the guidelines is to enable the central units of national TB and HIV/AIDS programmes to support districts to plan, coordinate and implement collaborative TB/HIV activities. The guidelines are intended for countries with either an overlapping TB and HIV epidemic or where there is an increasing HIV rate which may fuel the TB epidemic. International Health Regulations: Working Paper for Regional Consultations
Since 1995, WHO has been working on a revision of the International Health Regulations that would address the ever-changing unpredictable problem of the international spread of disease. WHO has now produced a working paper containing a preliminary draft of the proposed revisions. During the first half of 2004, national governments and international bodies will carefully review this draft. The results of this review will form the basis of an amended draft to be put to an International Working Group (IGWG) planned for November 2004. At this IGWG, Member States will be asked to endorse a final draft to be presented to the World Health Assembly in 2005 for adoption.(15/Dec/2003)
