World Report on Road Traffic Injury Prevention
Road traffic injuries (RTIs) are a deadly scourge, taking the lives of 1.2 million men, women, and children around the world each year. According to Pan American Health Organization statistics, 128,908 people died in road crashes in the Americas in 2002. More than 76 percent of these deaths occurred on the roads of the United States, Brazil, Mexico and Colombia, the most populated countries of the region. The World Report on Road Traffic Injury Prevention presents comprehensive documentation on what is known about the magnitude and determinants for RTIs and offers science-based evidence and solutions to address the problem.
