Well-Being
Published in a very unique format, this collection of quotations from Homer to the authors of books of the Bible to the drafters of the constitutions of the Pan American Health Organization and the World Health Organization attests to a universal understanding of health in its all-encompassing sense: "physical, mental and social well-being". These voices from over the centuries and from many different cultures eloquently and entertainingly chacterize the varying components of physical well-being (nutrition, exerecise, lifestyle and leisure of the individual). At the same time they recognize the requisite harmony of the individual with nature, and in dimensioing the concept of health, these sages likewise seize the contribution of mental well-being. For its part, the genius of the Constitution of WHO rests on its embrace of social well-being as a sine qua non of health.
